The 8-week training

Eight weeks, eight steps that build on each other

Not single meditations, but a training that builds, based on the proven MBSR method. Each week takes a new step, from noticing what is going on to consciously choosing how you live.

Week 1

The autopilot

Discover how often you live on autopilot and how noticing it is the first step to a real choice.

Week 2

From your head to your experience

Stop overthinking and drop into your body. Learn the difference between responding and being swept along.

Week 3

Back to the here and now

Breath and body become your anchors. Every time you drift off, you know the way back.

Week 4

Staying with it

Stay present with what feels uncomfortable. You discover you can handle more than you thought.

Week 5

Learning to accept

Stop fighting what is already here. That is exactly where space, steadiness and strength appear.

Week 6

Thoughts are not facts

Your thoughts feel real, but they are not. Watch them come and go, and choose for yourself.

Week 7

Taking care of yourself

Feeling your limits is not a luxury. You learn to listen to what you truly need.

Week 8

The rest of your life

Not an ending, but a beginning. Mindfulness stops being a task and becomes how you live.

Behind Awaren

Built by a mindfulness expert

Awaren was created by Roy van Sichem, an experienced mindfulness trainer. His mission is to help as many people as possible enjoy life again. He went through a burnout and depression himself, and found his way out through mindfulness. Since then it has become his life’s mission to teach mindfulness to everyone.

Recognized and experienced

A recognized trainer, not a faceless app

Awaren grew out of a real mindfulness practice. The training was developed by a recognized MBSR trainer who has guided people for years: first in the training room in Zoetermeer, now in the app too. The same method, the same structure.

  • Recognized MBSR trainer. Certified in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction method.
  • Years of experience. Teaching since 2008, with more than 1000 participants guided in person.
  • Live training in Zoetermeer. The 8-week training is also taught in person in small groups.

FAQ

Good to know

The training

Do I need experience with meditation?

No. This is a step-by-step training that teaches you to meditate, right from the basics. You need no prior knowledge, just a few minutes a day. And it is not floaty or vague. Getting stuck in your head is the real floatiness; this training teaches you to get out of your head and back to feeling what you really need.

How much time does it take per day?

Expect about 10 to 20 minutes a day. The meditations range from 5 to 20 minutes, so you can keep the training going, even on a busy day. Recent research shows that just 5 minutes of mindfulness a day increases awareness and can even influence gene expression.

Sleep & stress

Can Awaren help me sleep better?

Yes. Poor sleep often comes from a mind that will not switch off at night: worrying, ruminating, overthinking. That is exactly what Awaren works on. You learn to notice your thoughts and let them go instead of getting carried away, so you settle down more easily. Research backs this up: a randomised study in JAMA Internal Medicine showed that mindfulness measurably improves sleep quality in people with sleep problems. Awaren has no sleep stories; instead you learn a skill that also works during the day.

Does Awaren help with stress?

Yes, and this is what Awaren is built on. The training is based on MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction), the most researched method for stress worldwide. Meta-analyses consistently show that MBSR significantly reduces perceived stress, anxiety and rumination. You learn to recognise stress earlier and deal with it on purpose, instead of being overwhelmed. Not a temporary fix, but a skill that stays.

About Awaren

Is Awaren really the #1 mindfulness app?

Awaren is the #1 mindfulness app in the App Store, with an average rating of 4.8. The training itself has the highest rating on Google. The training is taught by Roy van Sichem, who has been giving the scientifically proven Mindfulness MBSR/MBCT trainings since 2008 and has guided more than 1000 people. Instead of putting a plaster on the wound, the Awaren app addresses the source: your thoughts. Through a scientifically proven method you learn to tackle the source, rather than temporary fixes.

What is the difference with other meditation apps?

Most apps give you single meditations: a moment of relief, but the problem itself stays. Awaren works at the root. In a structured 8-week training, where each week builds on the last, you learn to recognise your own thoughts and deal with them differently. So you do not just change how you feel for a moment, but the way you respond.

Is Awaren free?

Yes. Awaren is free to use: download the app and play all the free meditations right away, as often as you like. The full 8-week mindfulness training, the heart of Awaren, is part of Premium. You try that training free for 7 days, no payment details, and you stop whenever you want.

Which devices does Awaren work on?

Awaren works on iPhone and Android, and there is a full web environment where you can log in and see all your progress. Your account and your progress come with you, across all your devices.
